CURRENT PROJECTS
Parenting Circle
Having children is a blessing but it can be challenging at times due to many factors including the impact of the media and technology, racial prejudice, and acculturation gaps. Participants meet once a week for this six-week program. Using an Afro-centric approach we address the culturally-specific challenges women encounter while raising children in a Canadian landscape, allowing us to touch on a variety of common topics.
Healthy Relationships
Healthy relationships are important for personal success and happiness. Participants meet once a week for this six-week program that addresses topics such as relationship discord, intimacy, domestic abuse, reproductive health, among other issues. Men and women attend break-out groups before reuniting on shared topics. Participants celebrate the richness of the African culture as it is reflected in family life and indigenous Western approaches to remedying common relational problems.
Liberation Time
Liberation Time is a six-week healing circle that meets once a week to address all forms of trauma with a particular focus on the experiences of African and Caribbean- Canadian women. Women meet in a supportive space to share stories and provide healing support using spiritual and traditional African methods. It offers a space to manage trauma from slavery, colonialism, racism, inter-generational abuse cycles, childhood trauma, and intimate partner violence.
Champions of Newness
Champions of Newness is a monthly informational and discussion-based program for women designed to aid in the management of cultural conflicts, shock, and ‘newness’ to the western culture. This is a safe space for newcomers, such as immigrants and refugees to ask questions, learn of and share resources, and connect with others. One-on-one sessions are available upon request.
Death, Where is thy Sting
