OUR STORY
Tinu Ark of Mercy, established in January 2018 by Tinuola Abimbola Akhere, is a Brampton-based initiative that engages women and men of African descent who experience systemic barriers to wellbeing and limited opportunities to meaningful inclusion in their communities. Our programs are welcoming of anyone who identifies as a caregiver.
In 2012, the organization’s core group members began meeting through Redeemed Christian Church of God’s (RCCG) weekly women’s group to discuss ongoing concerns among women in the community.
In 2016, Tinuola spearheaded a new program called “Death, where is thy sting” in response to a growing need in the community for a group addressing loss and grief. This program continues as an ongoing weekly group providing communal and individual supportive services from an Afrocentric lens.
Tinu Ark of Mercy recognizes women are the key to sustainable development and quality of life. As such, we operate from a feminist lens with the aim to create a safe space that facilitates health, wellness, and support for our community’s Black parents and caregivers. Our services are focused on educating, healing, and sustaining healthy Black families, while combating all forms of oppression experienced by our community members. All of our services are implemented with an anti-oppressive, trauma-informed, and feminist approach.
Our services are available through one-on-one counseling and group setting. We continuously consult with field experts and welcome presentations from our consultants-experts in mental health, criminal justice, and spiritual wellness.
